Before the engineer Eugen Jäger invented the aquarium adjustable heater, there wasn't any really satisfactory solution for generating the water temperature suitable for the species. And everyone made do with complicated and sometimes odd methods. Some put the aquarium in the sun or next to the radiator or the heater.

Fifty years ago, when aquariums were still produced from angle frames with glass panes fitted in, Helmut Schröter set up a company for metal and glass construction in the German town of Rockenhausen-Obermühle in May 1952. The initial letters of his name turned into the legendary trademark of HETSCHER aquariums, which aquarists for many years equated with quality, safety and function.
